INSPIRED BY A REAL EVENT
Gabriela Blas was dedicated to grazing like many of the residents of Alcérreca. In July 2007, he was taking care of llamas in the altiplano when two animals got lost. He left his three-year-old son sitting in the desert and went looking for them. When he returned, Eloy was gone. He was found two years later, dead. She, sentenced to twelve years in prison for abandoning a minor resulting in death. We take this story as the basis of the montage because we see in the figure of Gabriela a symptom of the tedium, immobility, abandonment and cultural-political segregation in which her people are.
A Chilean town that is located in the middle of the altiplano, between Putre and Peru at 3,850 meters above sea level and currently has only 10 inhabitants. A place without loco motion, without electricity or drinking water and that is totally isolated.
It is in this town where the events occurred and it is this reality that we bring to the scene.
The work is proposed as a contemporary tragedy, resolving that the protagonist decides to abandon her son to free him; a metaphor of the social abandonment in which the minority ethnic groups of Chile find themselves condemned to disappear.
We want to talk about that "Other Chile", make it visible. A Chile on the margin, which takes place outside modernity, stopped in time, chained to the abandonment of those who do not want to see it.
ALCÉRRECA - Tragedy in the Altiplano premiered on year 2014 in the Theater of the Universidad Mayor in Santiago de Chile. FONDART winning work and selected to represent Chile in the Prague Quadrennial of performance Design and Space, 2015 (Czech Republic).
“Señora Vicenta:
Y aquí me quedé.
Nos quedamos todos a las finales. Todititos.
Y allá al morro me voy a poner yo cuando me da la rabia. Allá miro todo yo.
Tan grande que es acá. Que no hay nada, todo igual para todos lados digo yo y me da peeena.
No sé por qué eso me da pena me da a mí.
Pero el abuelo me la va a quitar toitita la pena. Yo le voy a pedir sí que se la lleve con él no más será.
“Quiero irme de aquí”, le voy a decir.
Ya no se puede estar. Ya no queda pasto.
Donde uno mira, pura tierra.
Tanta tierra que hay.
¿Habrá otro lugar que sea así con tan poco planta? ¿Ni un árbol? Una tierra asquerosa.
Es fea la tierra.
No me gusta a mí.
Veintitrés años ya que no salgo pa’ ni un lado. Veintinueve años que no me muevo de aquí yo.
(Le grita a Gabriela que está al otro extremo)
El desgraciado de tu papá no más fue. Él…pffff…se mandó cambiar no más.
Yo me quedé aquí.
Aquí me quedé apolillándome.
Aquí me quedé porque eso fue lo que el Señor quiso para mí.”
